Welcome to Vic Rinks. This is a personal interest project to explore, document and safeguard a niche corner of history that risks being forgotten. My mission was to create a centralized online record of defunct roller skating rinks in the Greater Melbourne Area of Victoria, Australia. It's now expanded to all of Victoria. 43 rinks and counting....
Stumbling upon this YouTube video helped to spark a fire of nostalgia in me and became a big inspiration beginning this project.
This video perfectly captures a moment in time that I'm sure will resonate with so many of you. As you watch it I imagine it will bring a smile to your face as you remember rolling around your own rink or maybe a pang of sadness as you think of moments, memories and people from long ago.
